Most people who book a paragliding flight from Marrakech picture themselves gliding over the medina (locals just call it parapente, the French word). That's not how it works. The take-off sites are in the foothills of the High Atlas, south of the city, and honestly the view out there is better: red earth villages, terraced fields, and the mountain wall running along the horizon.
If you've never flown before, good news. You don't need to know anything. In a tandem, a certified pilot sits behind you and handles the wing from take-off to landing. Your job is to run a few steps, sit back and look around. Below is what a typical half-day of paragliding in Morocco looks like with Parapente.ma, a club that has been flying the Atlas since 2014, with prices, the best season and what to wear.

Paragliding near Marrakech: where you actually take off
The club's main site is Aguergour, a plateau in the High Atlas foothills, about an hour to an hour and a half by road from Marrakech depending on where you're staying. Wide open slopes facing the plain, steady thermals in season. It's one of the best-known flying zones in the country, and the one we'd pick for a first flight.
The club has a full page on paragliding in Aguergour with live weather, wind direction and directions from Marrakech. Check it the day before. Out here the wind decides everything, not the schedule.
They also fly at Ait Ourir, east of Marrakech, and on the Atlantic coast at Legzira and Aglou, where you take off from cliffs above the ocean. Different trip, different mood. If you're based in Marrakech, stick with Aguergour.
How a tandem flight goes, step by step
You book on WhatsApp, at least 24 hours ahead. The day before, the club confirms the time based on the forecast. Mornings are common: the air is calmer and the light is softer. In summer it's pretty much the only sensible slot, before the midday heat makes the air too bumpy.
At take-off, the gliders are laid out on the ground like big sheets of coloured fabric. Your pilot clips you into a harness, hands you a helmet and gives a short briefing. Two instructions matter. Run when they say run. And keep running even when you feel the wing pull you up, until your feet are really off the ground. Sitting down too early is the classic first-timer mistake, and it makes take-off harder for everyone.
Then you're up.
The first few seconds are the strangest part, because the noise of the run stops and it goes quiet, apart from the wind. Most passengers relax fast after that. A standard flight lasts 10 to 20 minutes in the air depending on conditions. If you'd like to steer for a moment, ask your pilot.
Landing is in a field below. You lift your legs or stand up when the pilot tells you to, and you usually touch down at walking pace.
With the drive, the briefing and waiting for the right wind, the whole outing takes half a day. Don't book a tight lunch right after.
Prices: which tandem flight to pick
Prices listed by the club in October 2026, per person:
- Standard flight: 600 DH, 10 to 20 minutes in the air. The classic first flight.
- Sunset flight: 700 DH. Same idea, with late-day light on the mountains.
- 360° flight: 700 DH, with spirals and tight turns. Only if you have a solid stomach.
- Premium flight: 800 DH, with transport included, a personal welcome and mint tea.
- Discovery flight: 1,200 DH, 15 to 30 minutes, for more time in the air.
Our take: for a first flight, the standard option is plenty. If you don't have a car (most visitors don't), go premium. Getting to a plateau in the Atlas on your own by taxi is a hassle you don't need. All the options for tandem paragliding in Morocco are on the club's site, and booking happens over WhatsApp.
Digital photos of your flight are included, according to the club. And if the weather isn't safe on your day, the flight is moved at no extra cost or refunded in full.
Best season for paragliding in the Atlas Mountains
You can fly most of the year. Spring (March to May) is the best period, with mild temperatures and stable thermals, and autumn is good too. In summer, flights go early morning or late afternoon. Winter has some beautiful clear days with snow on the peaks, but it's cold at take-off, so dress for it.
Whatever the month, keep a spare day in your trip if the flight matters to you. A pilot who cancels because of gusts is doing their job.
Who can fly
Paragliding for beginners is the norm here, not the exception. No experience, no special fitness: you just need to be able to run a few steps on uneven ground. The club takes passengers from 12 years old, between 25 and 100 kg with clothes on. If you're close to the upper limit, say so when you book, not on the day.
Want to fly solo one day? The club also runs a 3-day introduction course and longer 5 to 10-day training courses.

What to wear and bring
- Closed shoes with grip. Trainers are fine, sandals are not.
- A windproof layer, even in May. It's always cooler at take-off than in Marrakech.
- Sunglasses and sunscreen.
- Not much else. Bags stay on the ground, and if you take your phone, keep it on a strap.
Prone to motion sickness? Have a light breakfast and skip the 360° flight.
